What's In A Glass?

Last night we had one of our favorite personal tasting events, Riedel stemware tasting and presentation (compliments of Lisa & AJ from Riedel Crystal to conduct a presentation). We have been longtime advocates of proper stemware, especially varietal specific stemware. We had the opportunity to participate in one of these seminars a few years ago and then again this year the fair hosted by Southern Wine & Spirits.

The presentation covers five different trees and four different wines. Participants were asked to taste wines in a suitable plant, and then move them into another. For example, Chardonnay is going to Cabernet Sauvignon Blanc Pinot KB glass windows, etc. There is a Sauvignon Blanc / Riesling glass, Chardonnay glass, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Glass, a joker and staklo.Joker This glass is a standard all-purpose glass is used that a typical glass in restaurants or household (we used the Libby glass of wine for ours). Four different wines were served wines that are typical of the varietals that should be served in these glasses. Our wines are selected:

1 Grgich Hills Fume Blanc 2008 (Sauvignon Blanc), $ 30
Second Forman Chardonnay, 2008, $ 50
Third Merry Edwards Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, 2008, $ 60
4th Whitehall Lane Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, 2007, $ 75

the best part of this work is watching the audience reaction when the workshop will eventually receive. As participants poured Grgich in its' Joker contact glass for the first time were zapanjeni.Sjajna wine color disappeared, vanished, and aroma to surprisingly tasted watery. Even worse was the spills (Riedel) glass of Chardonnay, the wine becomes too acidic. As we went to the tasting, all participants were less willing to throw his beloved wine in the wrong glass. One of our clients said, "I'm not wasting this wine is too good!"

But why the difference? What makes it so special Riedel? Boils down to two things - Crystal shape and

.

Crystal
Vinum, Vinum Extreme, Sommeliers, grape, Vitis and Tyrol series and most decanters are made of lead crystal. (Overture, Wine, and Vivant A series does not) lead crystal creates a clearer color and flavor that enhanced the glass is actually a typical example inhibira.Dobar Lisa (Riedel) was used last night, a typical glass shelves in his house or shop ... If you look at the side of it, it creates a greenish hue. It's true color of the glass, and most true color of typical restaurant wine glasses -. And why red wine can be distorted

format
Riedel family has spent years with the world's finest wine experts to develop a perfect glass for every sorte.Oblik for a particular varietal depends on many different things, but results in a format that best enhances the aroma and taste of wine. For example, a large outdoor bulbs to Montrachet (Chardonnay) glass allows you to be a complex and wide varieties of flavors in Chardonnay, while the thin bulb of Sauvignon Blanc / Riesling glass ensures that the wine hits you right in the center of the tongue (taste buds and right) for vina.Pinot Noir and Cabernet glasses can have a larger bulb, but not as open as Montrachet game (known as 'killer' red wine), red wine, making sure that enough oxygen gets to open the wine, but with plenty of that will kill the smell.

comment that summed up the night for me came from Ivan Seligman at aninsatiableappetite.blogspot.com (who also reports to the Gulfshore Life): "If you want to earn from $ 90 bottle of wine taste like $ 9 bottle, only to serve the those regular 3-5 dollars a non-crystalline glass in your home. also, fine crystal glass Cabernet say design, paired with a so-so cabernet, will make it taste better, although not as a $ 90 bottle. "

So, for those disbelievers in the Premium (or expensive) wines, ask a question ... the last time you had that $ 50 Cabernet taste that was not better than your $ 2 buck heads - what kind of glass is used in? Is it the old thick, open bulb at the bottom of the mother's or China's cabinet as long as the server brought to the table? We do not advocate any socks home to drink wine with an expensive set of each variety certain Riedel stem, and certainly does not travel with them. But if you're one who enjoys fine wine, it's not worth the investment for only a set or two of your favorite kind of wine? Investment that will improve your favorites and bring out the best in wine, which winemaker intends to experience.

We have been in place a non-believer and met many customers (and your family and friends) who have been or are still there. But, trust us on this, an experiment stemware such as Riedel presentation is powerful and makes believers out of us.

All red wines are made cultivation and processing of red (or black) grapes. Depending on the type of grapes used in red wine produced can vary greatly in color, texture, taste and smell. There are hundreds if not thousands, of different varietals of red wines available throughout the world. Among them there are seven that are most popular and most purchased: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Sangiovese, Barbera, Zinfandel, and

.

Cabernet Sauvignon (cab-er-NAY SO-vin-one)

Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the world's best varieties and is known as the king of red wines. It can be found in almost all regions where red wine grapes are grown. In the Bordeaux region in France known as the most noble red grape of all. It is also among the best red in California, Chile and Australia. Merlot (Mur-LO)

is the most commonly grown Merlot red wine grape in the Bordeaux region in France, and is often planted in California. In recent years, Merlot has soared in popularity, especially in the United States, South America, Italy and Australia. This is due to the fact that the softer, fruitier and easier to drink. His softness is the darling of the new wine for red wine drinkers. Merlot shows rich flavors of blackberry, plum and cherry with mint and tea-leaf tones. Often it is the perfect addition to beef or lamb dishes.

Pinot Noir (PEE-no NWA)

Pinot Noir is grown mainly in the Burgundy region of France, Oregon, Austria, New Zealand, and some colder regions of California. Since it is known as the most noble red grape, pinot noir is very difficult to grow. However, when conditions are right often creates an exceptional wine with great complexity and flavor. Barbera (bar-BEHR-uh)

Although not as popular, Barbera's classic red of Italian origin who has similar attributes with Merlot. It is mainly grown in the Piedmont region of Italy and is also widespread in California. It has a silky texture and excellent acidity, with rich aromas of juicy cherry and plum.

Zinfandel (ZIHM-fan-dell)

Of all the varieties of grapes, Zinfandel is perhaps the world's most comprehensive one, as everything from white wine blush on heavy rich red wines. This is one of the oldest grapes grown in California, and most always Kaliforniji.Crvena Zinfandel has a low to moderate acid medium to full body. He is known for its rich color scheme, high levels of tannins and a high proportion alkohola.Tipičan taste Zinfandel is often a zesty flavor with berry, spice and black pepper.

A Wine Lover's Weekly Guide to $10 Wines - A Semi-Sweet Cabernet Sauvignon

We have reviewed several wines from Baron Herzog (kosher) wineries. And it goes without saying that we reviewed lots and lots of Cabernet Sauvignons, and kosher, and not. But this is the first semi-dry or should I say semi-sweet Cabernet Sauvignon that we have ever reviewed, and the best of my memory, and even tasted.

Jeunesse is French for young people, such as the label says it is French for youthful, flavorful and fun. This wine is cold fermented in stainless steel tanks. But the oak. Mark recommends enjoying this wine slightly chilled. The website is not recommended by the Israeli cellaring.Drug Wine Cabernet Sauvignon at twice the price.

OUR WINE REVIEW POLICY All wines that we taste and review purchased at full retail price.

Wine Reviewed
Baron Herzog Jeunesse in 2008 12.0% alcohol about $ 10

Let's start by quoting the marketing materials. Description: The vibrant purple color leads to a pretty nose, plum, prune, cherry and spice cake. Dry, ripe and round, this ready-to-drink of the ideal candidate for many of the meat and vegetables off the grill. And now for my review.

tag, said semi-dry. The marketing materials claim that it is a dry wine. The first sips of the wine is quite sweet with good body and length. It is slightly kiselosti.Početni meal was slow-cooked London broil with potatoes and chickpeas. Wines remained sweetness. It is round and quite powerful, but you like the sweetness. The potatoes add an element of sour wine and chickpeas while adding an element of tobacco. The last meal of tomatoes, onions, peppers, salsa and lime off the wine and its sweetness has become embarrassing.

next installment focuses on grilled chicken thighs, both honey and garlic, tomato based. With the first thighs The cabin is like candy, and there is some acid and plum flavor. With wine tomatoey thighs is even sweeter than before, but did not give some flavor duhana.Prilog potatoes roasted in chicken fat added to the acidity of the wine but it's still like candy. The last part of the meal was a Moroccan style carrots in cumin and sliced green olives. I got more and less sugar plums, but the wine was still sweet.

My final meal was a boxer vegetarian baked Zita Sicilian style. This was the best pairing. I got the plum, sweet plum and pleasant acidity. There was some tobacco and almost no tannins. With fresh strawberries in the sweetness of wine is less objectionable. And with fruit juice candy cab is still sweet, but earthy.

First of traditional cheeses two I paired this with Cabernet Sauvignon Schmaltz Herring in ulju.Vino sweet and stayed like hrasta.Relativno flavorless brick cheese thinned wine, it's still cute (until now, it's hard to surprise.) With a little more palatable Münster and the same old, same old, but no more acidity.

final judgment. I will not buy this wine again. But for some people it can serve as a transition from a traditional record (rotgut) kosher wines of some very fine, dry kosher wine.

Customer Reviews

I purchased these for the candy buffet at my wedding. They were very popular and delicious.

These are elegant, festive looking "jellies" that taste great (white grape). My candy buffet was white, gold and brown, so this was perfect next to the brown chocolates. The Haribo gummie grapefruit were perfect too. I ordered bulk candy from several different websites, and Amazon was by far the fastest and least expensive way to go.

A Wine Lover's Weekly Guide to $10 Wines - A Kosher Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon

Chile can be a fine country for Cabernet Sauvignon. It does not come from the Central Valley wine growing region, the oldest and traditional wine production area of Chile. This area is divided into four areas, including the Maule Valley, which is not specifically addressed, perhaps not surprising given this wine a modest price tag. In some ways it's cheaper than at first glance because it is kosher, and kosher wine production and distribution inevitably involves additional costs. By now you probably know that kosher wines are not always super sweet. This wine is dry. Bottles from the back label states that is produced by Vina Carta Vieja and the seventh generation family winery whose first vineyards were planted 1825th But the journey to its bilingual Web site gave no indication of any wine. Please forgive me you are not calling them (I do not speak Spanish) to confirm or deny the origin.

OUR WINE REVIEW POLICY All wines that we taste and review purchased at full retail price.

Wine Reviewed
Don Alfonso Cabernet Sauvignon (V) 2009 12.5% alcohol about $ 10

Let's start by quoting the marketing materials. Description: The complex is filled Cabernet aromas of blackberry, cherry and black olives. Dry, ripely fruity with subtle oak notes, with no tannins to speak, but nicely balanced, anyway. Medium length, dense and smooth surface. Grilled steak is called. And now for my review.

The first sips of this wine I have oak and dark fruit, but the wine was gone very quickly. His first pairing was with a slow cooked beef ribs with potatoes in a savory sauce. This cabin is a chewy and mouth filling. It was a cordial flavored with black licorice. I also enjoyed a salad made of carrots, hearts of palm, chickpeas, Lebanese cucumbers, red peppers, corn, and canned. This delicious salad softened and extended wine.

next meal was boxed parmiagana eggplant I have coffee with grated Parmesan. This Cabernet Sauvignon showed a light acidity and lots of oak. It was barely noticeable round tannins and a cherry, tobacco and čokolada.Vino is refreshing, but not powerful.

My ultimate meal is beef broth with a wooden slanutak.Vino with dark black cherries. She presented a good balance between tannins and acidity.

Prior to the traditional two cheeses I've enjoyed some Schmaltz Herring in oil instead of the more common vinegar pripremi.Kabina tasted black cherries and a slightly sweet with some oak. Together with local Provolone, wine is a little rough with light acidity and black cherries. With tasty Swiss wine is round, but not very strong.

final judgment. This wine is definitely worth buying again. Not all couples were alright, but many of them were and the price was right, even more so if you are looking for kosher wine. Many people will appreciate the relative lack of tannins, somewhat unusual for Cabernet Sauvignon.
