What's In A Glass?

Last night we had one of our favorite personal tasting events, Riedel stemware tasting and presentation (compliments of Lisa & AJ from Riedel Crystal to conduct a presentation). We have been longtime advocates of proper stemware, especially varietal specific stemware. We had the opportunity to participate in one of these seminars a few years ago and then again this year the fair hosted by Southern Wine & Spirits.

The presentation covers five different trees and four different wines. Participants were asked to taste wines in a suitable plant, and then move them into another. For example, Chardonnay is going to Cabernet Sauvignon Blanc Pinot KB glass windows, etc. There is a Sauvignon Blanc / Riesling glass, Chardonnay glass, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Glass, a joker and staklo.Joker This glass is a standard all-purpose glass is used that a typical glass in restaurants or household (we used the Libby glass of wine for ours). Four different wines were served wines that are typical of the varietals that should be served in these glasses. Our wines are selected:

1 Grgich Hills Fume Blanc 2008 (Sauvignon Blanc), $ 30
Second Forman Chardonnay, 2008, $ 50
Third Merry Edwards Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, 2008, $ 60
4th Whitehall Lane Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, 2007, $ 75

the best part of this work is watching the audience reaction when the workshop will eventually receive. As participants poured Grgich in its' Joker contact glass for the first time were zapanjeni.Sjajna wine color disappeared, vanished, and aroma to surprisingly tasted watery. Even worse was the spills (Riedel) glass of Chardonnay, the wine becomes too acidic. As we went to the tasting, all participants were less willing to throw his beloved wine in the wrong glass. One of our clients said, "I'm not wasting this wine is too good!"

But why the difference? What makes it so special Riedel? Boils down to two things - Crystal shape and

.

Crystal
Vinum, Vinum Extreme, Sommeliers, grape, Vitis and Tyrol series and most decanters are made of lead crystal. (Overture, Wine, and Vivant A series does not) lead crystal creates a clearer color and flavor that enhanced the glass is actually a typical example inhibira.Dobar Lisa (Riedel) was used last night, a typical glass shelves in his house or shop ... If you look at the side of it, it creates a greenish hue. It's true color of the glass, and most true color of typical restaurant wine glasses -. And why red wine can be distorted

format
Riedel family has spent years with the world's finest wine experts to develop a perfect glass for every sorte.Oblik for a particular varietal depends on many different things, but results in a format that best enhances the aroma and taste of wine. For example, a large outdoor bulbs to Montrachet (Chardonnay) glass allows you to be a complex and wide varieties of flavors in Chardonnay, while the thin bulb of Sauvignon Blanc / Riesling glass ensures that the wine hits you right in the center of the tongue (taste buds and right) for vina.Pinot Noir and Cabernet glasses can have a larger bulb, but not as open as Montrachet game (known as 'killer' red wine), red wine, making sure that enough oxygen gets to open the wine, but with plenty of that will kill the smell.

comment that summed up the night for me came from Ivan Seligman at aninsatiableappetite.blogspot.com (who also reports to the Gulfshore Life): "If you want to earn from $ 90 bottle of wine taste like $ 9 bottle, only to serve the those regular 3-5 dollars a non-crystalline glass in your home. also, fine crystal glass Cabernet say design, paired with a so-so cabernet, will make it taste better, although not as a $ 90 bottle. "

So, for those disbelievers in the Premium (or expensive) wines, ask a question ... the last time you had that $ 50 Cabernet taste that was not better than your $ 2 buck heads - what kind of glass is used in? Is it the old thick, open bulb at the bottom of the mother's or China's cabinet as long as the server brought to the table? We do not advocate any socks home to drink wine with an expensive set of each variety certain Riedel stem, and certainly does not travel with them. But if you're one who enjoys fine wine, it's not worth the investment for only a set or two of your favorite kind of wine? Investment that will improve your favorites and bring out the best in wine, which winemaker intends to experience.

We have been in place a non-believer and met many customers (and your family and friends) who have been or are still there. But, trust us on this, an experiment stemware such as Riedel presentation is powerful and makes believers out of us.
